ACSEINE believes that beauty is based on skin physiology that is allergen-free and highly effective.
Cosmetics help women look their best while providing care and protection for sensitive skin, allowing them to use products with confidence and a reduced risk of allergic reactions.
In the modern era, we accept that cosmetics are safer. However, in the 1970s, cosmetic allergies had severe impacts on women’s skin, sometimes making makeup appear very dangerous. ACSEINE began by collaborating with dermatologists to conduct joint research on theories focused on avoiding allergen-producing products.
The three letters “A.C.S.” are the essence of ACSEINE’s origin. It stands for “Allergen Control System,” which refers to a supplementary therapy system aimed at identifying allergens (substances that cause skin irritation) to remove them from daily life and prevent the recurrence of allergies. In 1973, ACSEINE collaborated with dermatologists and 9 companies to establish the ACS Research Society, which served as the cosmetics division and continues to develop cosmetics today.
In the 21st century, environmental factors affect the skin, causing severe problems. We maintain our core essence, such as A.C.S., and develop hypoallergenic cosmetics, striving to make your skin look even better.
At ACSEINE, we are not influenced by fashion trends; instead, we think about what our customers’ skin truly needs and focus on tangible results. To ensure customers can use our cosmetics with peace of mind and without recurring issues, we do not compromise on quality from development to sales, even if it means being less efficient. It is this attention to small details that gives us full confidence in the quality of our products.
ACSEINE adheres to the fundamental philosophy that for beautiful skin without recurring problems, we must meticulously select cosmetic ingredients, conduct various tests to confirm safety, and sell only products that meet our own strict standards.
Furthermore, research reveals that a hydrated epidermal layer is the best defense. The drier the skin, the more sensitive it becomes, which can lead to various skin issues. That is why ACSEINE continues to prioritize hydration, not only in skincare products but also in UV protection and makeup.
We would like to introduce the history of ACSEINE, a brand that has been providing treatments for various skin concerns for over 40 years.
During the development of medical products, we found that many people suffered from dermatitis caused by using cosmetics in conjunction with pigmentation. Once we realized the cause was an allergic reaction, we began research and development to eliminate the causative substances (fragrances, pigments, impurities, etc.) from the raw materials.
Under the theme “Understanding Cosmetics and Allergies,” we began joint research with a team of dermatologists led by Dr. Hideo Nakayama, who was then the Head of Dermatology at Tokyo Saiseikai Central Hospital. We developed a prototype product called “ACC (Allergen Control Cosmetics),” which eliminated ingredients that caused cosmetic contact dermatitis, and found that its clinical application could serve as a supplementary treatment for pigmented cosmetic dermatitis.
Dr. Hideo Nakayama proposed the ACS (Allergen Control System) theory, and the ACS Research Association was established to research diagnostic systems, chemicals, and treatment support systems, with 9 participating companies including ACSEINE Co., Ltd.,
which was responsible for the cosmetics division.
At the 73rd General Meeting of the Japanese Dermatological Association, Dr. Hideo Nakayama presented “Fragrance Allergy and Cosmetic Dermatitis.” He identified allergens among hundreds of fragrances and other ingredients used in cosmetics and soaps and designed the Allergen Control System (ACS) to prevent the recurrence of cosmetic dermatitis by removing those substances from the patient’s entire environment.
His research showed that this system was highly effective in treating pigmented dermatitis. This presentation sparked increased public interest in cosmetic safety.
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare designates a list of ingredients that may be allergens and must be labeled. Labeling is mandatory under the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law.
After completing the development of cosmetics using the Allergen Control System (ACS), clinical trials began at the Department of Dermatology, Nagoya University School of Medicine, Kansai Medical University School of Medicine, and Osaka Kaisei Hospital.
In the same year, the ACS Counseling Center was established, and specialized consultations by pharmacists began.
We began selling cosmetics under the brand name “Clinica.”
ACSEINE Co., Ltd. was founded using the initials of ACS (Allergen Control System). Later, the brand name was changed to “ACSEINE” and we began selling skincare products.
Developed the world’s first technology to encapsulate all pigments in microcapsules and launched the gentle “MC (Microcapsule) Foundation.”
We were among the first to bring high-performance moisturizing gels that are oil-free and surfactant-free to the market.
The AD Control Series, which combines safety and efficacy based on the skin condition control concept to help treat atopic dermatitis, was launched. This product is free from ingredients required for labeling, alcohol-free, and emulsifier-free.
The “Basic Skin Care (AL) Series” was launched, aiming to improve the function of the skin’s outermost barrier. “Mild Sun Shield,” free from UV absorbers, and various color makeup products were continuously introduced. Furthermore, the “FC (Fine Coat)” foundation was launched as an improved version of the original MC foundation, where each pigment is coated with a thin silica film. Additionally, noticing that many people had allergic reactions to hair dye, the company developed and began selling “Naturie Hair Color N,” a hair dye that does not use diamine dyes such as PPD (paraphenylenediamine).
We opened the ACSEINE Customer Service Center, a telephone consultation service for customers. We began providing more specific beauty consultation services under the supervision of qualified pharmacists. Additionally, we launched the Sebum Clean Up Series, which helps address adult acne.
The company launched “UV Protection,” a product containing UV ingredients but no UV absorbers, designed to treat adult acne by highlighting the fact that UV rays can cause breakouts. Following the revision of the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law in the spring of 2001, all ingredients must be labeled, and products released from April onwards were labeled accordingly.
We developed a unique technology called “Release Emulsion,” which encapsulates brightening ingredients in “phospholipids,” which have a structure similar to cell structures. By applying this technology, we launched the “White Emulsion Series,” which combines low-irritation properties with high absorption. Additionally, we expanded the “AD Control Series” to include moisturizing and protective products.
Developed the world’s first PV technology, which not only coats foundation pigments but also coats organic (tar-based) pigments in cosmetics with a thin silica film, and launched the ACSEINE Makeup PV Series. Additionally, Moist Balance was launched, a high-performance moisturizing gel containing 80% water.
We launched “Reset Wash,” a foam cleanser that addresses “keratinocyte hyperproliferation,” a factor that weakens the skin barrier. Additionally, we launched “White Emulsion Cell-Up Gel,” a gel focused on treating post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
We launched “White Emulsion Cell Up Eye,” which helps address pigmentation around the eyes, an area prone to irritation.
We launched the “Super Sunshield” sunscreen formula, which is chemical-free and contains no UV absorbers, yet maintains SPF50/PA+++. It is extremely effective and safe, protecting the skin from dryness and roughness caused by UV rays.
Launched ACSEINE Sebum Clean Water AC Moist (quasi-drug), which is more effective in treating adult acne in sensitive skin caused by dryness, and launched an improved version of Mild Sun Shield, a long-selling product that dermatologists continue to recommend for its enhanced UV protection and hydration.
Launched ACSEINE Sebum Clean Water AC Moist Mask, a new face mask formula certified by medical institutions for its effectiveness in helping treat acne.
We developed a multi-layer release emulsion, an evolution of our proprietary release emulsion technology. This technology helps deliver brightening ingredients to targeted areas while providing hydration and increasing whitening efficiency. We launched a new emulsion series for bright skin using this technology.
We developed a unique formula with high absorption efficiency that acts on the basal membrane (where cells are created). We then launched “Cell Moisture Water,” a lotion that transforms the “skin structure” of repeatedly dry skin.
Recognizing that stress can lead to dry skin, the company launched Silky Moisture Foundation, which uses flexible, low-friction spherical powders (crosspolymers) and evenly coats all powders with highly moisturizing skincare ingredients, resulting in a lightweight feel and smooth application. At the same time, the company launched All Day Clear Bright Base, which uses its proprietary MC Chitosan Veil technology to create a water-based protective film that promotes the absorption of skincare ingredients, hydrates the epidermis, and ensures smooth makeup application.
We discovered that skin stress, such as irritation, is a factor that causes modern skin to age faster than it should, resulting in a loss of firmness and elasticity. By developing bio-delivery technology that sends essential ingredients to targeted areas without causing irritation or stress, we launched Future Cycle Creamy Serum, a stress-free anti-aging skincare product. it can be used daily without burdening the skin while being highly effective in increasing skin firmness and elasticity.
With one in two adult women wanting to use SPF50 products for daily UV protection but hesitating due to concerns about skin damage, ACSEINE launched “Super Sun Shield EX <SPF50+> <PA+++>,” a product using continuously developed protective film technology to provide high UV protection without chemicals, while remaining gentle and comfortable. Since 2013, the UVA protection index has been upgraded from <PA+++ (3+)> to <PA++++ (4+)>, making it the ACSEINE product with the highest UV protection in history. Additionally, for those experiencing skin dehydration despite proper care, ACSEINE relaunched the “Moist Balance” formula, popular for 11 years, as “Moist Balance R,” adding new ingredients to support ceramide function and increase moisturizing efficiency while maintaining the same fresh feel.
ACSEINE has taken its unique PV technology to the next level, preventing pigments from coming into direct contact with the skin, and launched a new makeup line. It consists of 4 categories: eyeshadow, brow, cheek, and highlighter, providing a lightweight texture, vibrant colors that don’t dull, and a comfortable feel with the latest Airy Fit Color Keep formula. Additionally, ACSEINE launched a lip gloss using lamellar water-and-color layering techniques, providing moisture-retention properties for the lips while reflecting light for a plump, glossy look without causing dryness or cracking.
Modern environments affecting the skin cause significant internal and external damage, and we noticed many women suffering from dry and sensitive skin. We launched “Moist Balance Lotion,” a new skincare lotion that focuses not only on hydration—the foundation of healthy skin—but also on quality and quantity to solve the dry skin problems of modern women.
The skin’s environment is becoming harsher every year, and the risk of sensitive skin is increasing, making skin more vulnerable to UV rays. We noticed that modern women are experiencing various skin issues such as dryness, dullness, and roughness. To meet the needs of women with skin concerns that cannot be fully covered by “Super Sunshield EX,” we launched “Super Sunshield Bright Veil,” a coverage-type sunscreen with enhanced skin-tone evening properties.
The neck and décolletage, which are frequently exposed to sunlight, have thin and delicate skin, while the arms have fewer sebaceous glands and tend to dry out easily, making them more susceptible to UV damage. However, people still don’t pay much attention to daily skincare in these areas, leaving them vulnerable to damage. We therefore launched “Super Sunshield Bright Fit,” an emulsion-type sunscreen for the face and body that provides high UV protection with SPF50+, is gentle on the skin, and makes the skin look beautiful and comfortable for everyday wear.
With reliable technology, sensitive skin becomes even more beautiful.
ACSEINE has conducted extensive research to prevent the main causes of skin problems: UV rays and dryness. “Sunscreen” is a registered trademark of ACSEINE.
In the 1990s, we were pioneers in developing chemical-free formulas that contain no UV absorbers. Additionally, we developed our own unique “protective film” technology, which protects the skin while providing a moisturized feel and beauty that lasts all day, and we continue to evolve this technology to this day.
Rashes and allergic reactions caused by cosmetic products are often caused by pigments.
ACSEINE therefore developed technology to coat pigments, a key component of cosmetics, to protect the skin from irritation, leading to the development of ACSEINE’s unique PV technology.
This technology coats iron oxides, which are inorganic pigments used in foundations, and organic pigments (made from tar), which are key components of makeup colors, with a thin, transparent silica layer. This helps highlight your beauty without the pigments touching the skin directly.
Even within the realm of “sensitive skin,” skin conditions, the timing of issues, and causes vary from person to person. That is why ACSEINE believes that accurately understanding your own skin condition and providing proper care with products suited to your skin type is essential.
